What is an Oncology RN?

Are you a compassionate RN with a passion for providing specialized care to patients with cancer? As a Travel Oncology RN, you will have the opportunity to work in various healthcare settings, delivering comprehensive oncology care and support to patients and their families. This role requires an RN who is knowledgeable about oncology treatments, has excellent communication skills, and can provide compassionate care throughout the cancer journey.

To be considered for this position, you must have a minimum of 2 years of experience as an RN, hold an active RN license in good standing, and possess certifications such as BLS and OCN (Oncology Certified Nurse) or similar oncology-related certifications. Additionally, experience in oncology nursing and knowledge of cancer treatments and side effects are highly desired.

In this role, you will be responsible for:

  • Assessing and monitoring patients with cancer, including physical and psychosocial assessments
  • Administering chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and other oncology treatments as prescribed
  • Managing chemotherapy side effects and providing supportive care
  • Educating patients and their families about cancer treatments, side effects, and symptom management
  • Collaborating with the interdisciplinary team to develop and implement individualized care plans
  • Monitoring and evaluating patients’ response to treatments and modifying care plans as necessary
  • Documenting patient information accurately and maintaining medical records
  • Providing emotional support and counseling to patients and their families
  • Participating in oncology research, quality improvement initiatives, and continuing education.

Common Oncology RN Responsibilities:

  • Administration and management of chemotherapy and immunotherapy
  • Symptom management and supportive care
  • Pain management
  • Collaboration with interdisciplinary teams for optimal patient outcomes
  • Education and counseling for patients and families.
